Banana and Date Scones

3 cups plain flour (or 1 cup of plain flour and 2 cups of wholemeal)

4½ tsp baking powder               

1 cup milk    

1 egg            

½ cup dates (sliced in half)

¼ tsp salt

1 mashed ripe banana

50g (2oz) melted butter

2 Tbsp honey

Melt the honey and butter in a saucepan or microwave,  When cool beat in egg, mashed banana and 1/2 cup of milk.

Sift dry ingredients into a bowl and add the banana/egg/milk mixture.  Form a soft dough using the remaining milk if required.

Roll out on a board sprinkled with flour.  Cut into squares and bake on cold oven tray lined with baking paper.  Bake in preheated oven 215° C for 10 – 15 minutes.
